Paul J Whelan - Area Vice President – Northeast Region

Paul J. Whelan is the Vice President for SRS Distribution Inc.'s Northeast Region and has over 28 years of roofing industry experience in both manufacturing and distribution. Mr. Whelan has a strong background in distribution sales and operations as well as strategic planning and acquisitions. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Saint Mary’s University in both Finance and Economics.

Mr. Whelan began his career in 1984 and spent his first nine years in sales/sales management with roofing related manufacturers and roofing distribution. He spent the next four years with Tamko Roofing Products, a leading roofing manufacturer. Paul was responsible for rapid territory growth and an increase of 125 percent in annual sales. He was hired as Director of Sales & Marketing for the Roof Center in 1998. Mr. Whelan helped lead the company’s swift growth from ten branches and $69 million to 18 branches and $150 million by 2000. Growth was direct through eight successful “greenfield” openings and organic growth in the core Mid Atlantic locations. Paul was promoted to Vice President of Sales in 1999 and to Vice President and General Manager in 2001. The company grew to 22 branches and $225 million in sales with the acquisition of West End Lumber in Houston, Texas, prior to the company being sold to Beacon Sales in 2001.

During his tenure at Roof Center, he had responsibility for a staff of thirteen including sales management, operations management, marketing, product managers and training. In addition to this role Paul was responsible for vendor management and was part of the acquisition management team involved in initial targeting, due diligence and integration.

In 2003 Mr. Whelan and two partners joined forces with Red Diamond Capital to acquire Morris Ginsberg & Sons, an $18 million single branch roofing distributor in Baltimore, MD. Through two successful green fields in Northern Virginia the business grew to over $50 million in three years. In 2007, Morris Ginsberg was sold to the NB Handy Company where Mr. Whelan remained under contract providing leadership, key customer/vendor relationships and integration support to the new owners.

Since joining SRS in June 2010, Paul has been involved with four acquisitions and five Greenfield locations with EBITDA growing to 8.2 percent in 2012.
